This is my favorite place to eat in Iowa City. My personal favorite item on the menu is the Little Jo's and fries. They're mini burgers. Their wings and sweet potato fries are great too. As of last year there is now outdoor seating as well.

The food was pretty good, I got the Monte Carlo which on Mondays are a couple bucks cheaper. The atmosphere is really a dine kind of bar, it's dark and there's sports on the TV everywhere you look. The one thing I didn't like was the waitress, she just looked like she didn't care about her job or that she was too good for it. She didn't really smile and didn't give us a welcome or friendly attitude. Overall the food was the best out of my overall experience, the atmosphere was dark and it was empty, granted I went in the middle of the day during the week and the waitress was just a plain Jane, nothing special so the Vine to me isn't a memorable restaurant or a dine in bar but the food was okay.

Kind of a dive atmosphere, but the food was actually quite good. I got a blue cheese burger and my date got a buffalo chicken wrap which was awesome. We got nachos as an appetizer--this was tasty and big enough to be an entire meal. The beer selection wasn't fantastic, but the prices seemed reasonable. Service was polite, helpful, and attentive. Seems like this would be a good place to watch a game--they have a lot of TVs for the space.

Kind of a dive atmosphere. GREAT burgers! Lots of beer choices. Ok service. Reasonable prices. Good tvs for soccer and football watching.

Such a great place to eat! Phenomenal beer specials and the food was delicious. If you're a fan of the TV Show "How I Met Your Mother" this is the Iowa City version of McClaren's. I will definitely be back the next time I am in Iowa City.

Great for Happy Hour! The wings are delicious and various flavors. It is kid friendly!

Nice to see some things never change. It's been over 5 years since being here and it was just as fantastic as I remember it. We got the smoky mountain BBQ and hot boneless wings and the sauces were just a flavorful as I remember them.

The food was great - the service needs help. Not very friendly, not very attentive, took forever...

A local told me to hit this place up. Dude was on the level. Beers and mixed drinks were a dollar apiece (Monday special) and the wings were all kinds of awesome. A little more restaurant than bar, but the wait staff is solid. Come here on a Monday. It's the best $15.00 you'll spend all week.

Went to Vine for the first night a few weekends ago. Heard their wings were some of the best in town. I thought they were good, they are pretty thin and crispy which is how I like wings but for someone who wants a lot of meat on their wings this is probably not the place to go. We got the Maple Hot sauce on the wings, but we tasted absolutely no sweetness. I honestly think they just put regular hot sauce on them. However, they still tasted good so no complaints. Also ordered the French Dip sandwich, just mediocre. The meat on the sandwich was a little fatty and grisly, and the au jus really had to flavor at all. The fries were pretty decent however. We were there for happy hour which is pretty decent and we got some good beer for relatively cheap. Service was fine. Only other complaint is that a table of about ten males sat down right near our booth and were talking abnormally loud, essentially screaming to the people sitting right next to them. That ruined the meal a little.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere most when I ate at Vine and I will definitely go again. I would recommend their wings over all else and I'd say the best time to stop in is during a Hawks game (if you can get a seat). I give it only 3 stars because I did not receive great service the night I went, and my burger was just a bit above average. However I do recommend going, just not over a place like Stella.

Best wings. Ever. I've been eating the buffalo wings here since before they became the hip bar food nationwide and chain restaurants started adding them to their appetizer menus. They're more expensive now, but still the best. Besides that, they have good burgers. For some reason, they're all named after someone named "Jo". I personally like the Peppercorn Jo, which comes with a chipotle mayo, cheddar cheese and a couple of onion rings stacked on it. Tasty! Most of the time, the service is just fine. Sometimes, it seems like whoever is in charge of scheduling server shifts has half a brain. More often than not you can chalk up bad service to the fact that they are understaffed and the server has too many tables. That said, the best time to order the aforementioned Best Wings Ever is not when it looks like they are jam-packed and understaffed because there is the distinct possibility your wings will sit waiting to be expedited for 10 minutes and get cold.

The absolute worst, most appalling service I've ever experienced, on any given night of the week. Understaffed with incompetent employee's, there are next to zero redeeming qualities of the Vine in Iowa City (however, no complaints with the Coralville location). The food is good, but make sure you call ahead three weeks in advance to have your order started, because that's about how long you'll wait. If I owned or managed the Vine (in Iowa City), I'd be embarrassed.

The place has definitely gone through changes. They recently renovated the entire space and it was a much needed upgrade. They have great specials Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. LOVE their wing sauce selection (pretty big menu as well) and you can't go wrong with the stein specials. Really great place to watch sports with their brand new TVs. Comfortable and friendly atmosphere - very informal and good place to hangout with friends and family.

I feel like you can always tell a place by their salads. If a restaurant cares enough to give you good quality ingredients in a salad they probably put love into the rest of their food. (I've worked in a good number of restaurants in my day). This was not the case here. I've eaten here 2 times and I don't think I'll be eating here again any time soon. The first time I ordered a salad that came to me with brown/slimy iceberg lettuce. Which I couldn't eat. The second time I ordered chicken strips and fries. They were good, but the same old thing you can get anywhere else.

If I could give zero stars I would. Ordered a drink and it never came. Our waitress 'kerriann' brought everyone else their food and drinks but had no recollection of me ordering. Made no attempt to apologize or make up for it. She also spent a disproportionate amount of time in the back corner, with rounds to our table few and far between. If you're looking for a decent meal I'd recommend checking our another spot first. There are a ton of spots in IC with way better food, definitely check them out before coming over here. This isn't my first poor experience here, but it will definitely be my last.

By far the best bar in Iowa City. I was quite a regular there in college and loved every minute. Their hot wings are the best in town. The rest of the food is decent bar food, but I come for the drinks and atmosphere. Drink the $2.50 Vine steins and $1 Apple pie shots! Oh and the bloody mary's are the bomb!

If you tend to wear your hats backward, have a vanity plate that says fan4herk, lovehwks, or jiz4ui, or have a tiger hawk tatted on your body, you will love this place. If you're just a normal human being with a decent palate and no interest in cults then you will probably get sick when you walk through the door, sicker when you eat your meal, and then spend quality time with your toilet after you leave. This is one of those classic smells-like-bleach bars that serves dry wings and cheap, stank burgers. There is absolutely no reason to ever set foot inside of this place unless you're 18-21 and dimwitted.

In college, before the Coralville strip and before kids, I used to hit the Vine in Iowa City. As a Clone grad I was very impressed, its perfect for the college scene. After moving back to the area and starting a family, the Coralville location is much more kiddo friendly even having a kids menu. The Vine is huge, and especially before Hawkeye home events can get crazy busy. The wings are indeed smaller and the service is generally suspect at best. What the wings lack in size, they easily make up for in taste. Never soggy, never dry, and if you go between 3-7pm M-F the wings are $5.99 for a dozen during happy hour. As far as the cheese bacon fries, they are good, but over $9 which is very pricey for what you get. If you get them, be sure you tell them to make sure the cheese is fully melted before they bring it to you, we've gone many times and the fries are done, but the cheese is not melted and not even hot. To go to the Vine and not get wings is borderline sacrilege. That being said, my wife likes the Buffalo Chix Sambo and I know a buddy who digs the Po Boy.

I LOVE the Vine in Iowa City!! I seriously cannot visit Iowa City without stopping at the Vine for lunch/ dinner (or both) Yes i have had it twice in one day because IT IS THAT GOOD. Bar-ish food. They have the best buffalo chicken and a ton of different sauces that are pretty good too. They make their own ranch; it's excellent. Burgers are decent too. Great place to go for Hawkeye Football games! Awesome happy hour deals. The Iowa City location is kinda dive-y so if you don't like that I would suggest going to the one in Coralville its about 5x bigger and has out door seating :)

The service here is awful. I sat at the bar, which was not full, and it would still take the bartender several minutes to get my drink. I placed an order for two dozen wings and it took 25 minutes for the wings to come out. The guy sitting down the bar from me had to ask the bartender if his wings were coming out, because his friend was getting ready to leave. The waitresses seemed to have no idea what was going on and orders would sit in the serving window for five minutes or more before going out to the table. When I finally asked for my check the bartender took five minutes to get it out to me, and that was because I had to remind him that I'd asked for it. I asked about this experience on Facebook when I returned home and many of my friends agreed that this was a typical experience at the Iowa City Vine. The food was fine, but due to the terrible service I will never go back to this restaurant.

The Vine used to be me and my family's favorite dive in Iowa City to enjoy good, reasonably priced food and atmosphere. Unfortunately, prices keep going up and food quality/quantity keeps going down. The wings now have MUCH less meat on them than they used to, for more than double the price! There was also a long stretch there where their service was absolutely terrible, but it seems to have improved a little. I don't go there much anymore because there are very few vegetarian options, and they're simply overpriced.

The Iowa City Vine might have the best happy hour in town. Between 3-7 they have (among other things) $2 Margaritas and Long Islands. They also have some sort of beer special during Cubs games, but I can't remember what it is because I don't like beer. The Iowa City Vine is much smaller and cozier than the Coralville version. Tuesdays night is Wing Night and it can get pretty busy. The IC Vine bathrooms are usually pretty gross.

Great bar, good bar food, and decent beer deals. I frequented here in college and still go a few times a month, yes I guess I am a young townie. Best known for its wings, the first thing when you open the menu is the listing of wing sauces. I get the dozen super hot and a Vine Ale stein every time anymore. By about wing number eight I have a good few beads of sweat going, but nothing untolerable. Also have good burgers and wraps. My backup is the buffalo chicken wrap where you can choose the wing sauce that goes in, mmmm. Good selection of tvs and the staff is good about changing if you want something else on. Have $1 drafts and other deals a few nights a week (Monday at least) and always $1 shots of apple pie! Vine stein is still $2.50 and I really don't stray too much from that. Overall, a little dark, not too loud, and great staff that never writes the order down but has never screwed my order up. Also, the staff is good about letting us all pay with cards when we have a group, kind of a must with a student crowd but still a nice touch.

My first time in Iowa City and I watched the Iowa/Norhwestern game here. The game was at Northwestern and I live 10 minutes away, yet, we drove 3 hours to Iowa City to watch the game at a bar! (Don't ask, but there was a wedding to attend) It was already half time when we arrived and were lucky to still snag a table in front of the TV! Wish it was HD though. We ordered some steins of beer, hot and medium wings, and the Mojo Burger with crisp bacon, sauteed mushrooms, and no swiss cheese. It was awesome! I hardly touched the wings since they were too spicy for me and because I enjoyed the burger much more. The seasoned fries were also excellent. Atmosphere is just like that of any college bar. Service was not bad. Seems to be a family bar? I saw a couple of kids there... first time I've seen that...

Been going on and off for over 15 years. The overall experience is great. With it being a college bar there is always a turnover with staff but hey it is a college town. I love it and try to get there once a month.

Cheap beer. Cheap, but good, food. Nasty bathrooms. Pretty waitresses. Oh how I miss the Vine. (by the way your new jukebox sucks) I love you University of Iowa. I miss you so much. By the way I owned that Golden Tee machine back in college.

Came here hungover and hungry. Ordered a buffalo chicken wrap and the food took like 30 minutes. But it was worth it. Thank god for the dimly lit dining room and calm, friendly wait staff. I'd go back.

Lady you bereft me of all words, Only my blood speaks to you in my veins, And there is such confusion in my powers. -Shakespeare How did I get here? This is not my bucket of wings, this is not my cab sav!... oh wait, I don't care and they are... cocktail! If you find yourself in Iowa City this is the drinking establishment to frequent...

The last review gave me a chuckle. The last time that I was in Iowa City was about 3.5 years ago and it sounds as if little has changed. The happy hours are AWESOME. Especially after a hard day at work at the University Hospital. There is a lot of beer, but the cocktail specials are the most memorable. Oh...and yes, the bathrooms were gross, even back then!

Best bar in Iowa City. This was my second home when I lived in Iowa City. Vine steins and super hot wings were in my diet at least 2-3 times a week. Great place to watch a game or just hang out with friends. Everyone that works there is so great! I still have not found a bar with better wings, actually I haven't found any that even come close. How I miss you Vine!

The wings here were freaking awesome. There were 10 or so different flavors, and during happy hour, you get a dozen for $4. There were also some nice beer specials, and the long island special everybody else has already commented on. Definitely a nice place to see a game and have a drink. :)
